St. John's Crafters

Who are the St. John's Crafters?

It’s a group of people who enjoy creating beautiful hand-worked items be they knitted, crocheted or woven goods, and joining in fellowship while contributing to St. John’s and helping others in ministry.

Regardless of your level of expertise - beginner, intermediate or expert - bring your current knitting or crocheting projects and materials and join us for an evening of knitting, conversation, and coffee & cake.

As we knit and crochet, and share information and advice, we'll also discuss ways in which we can craft items for sale at fund-raisers such as the upcoming Weihnachtsmarkt (German Christmas Market) and make items that can be distributed to those in need such as blankets for the homeless, blankets and caps for those undergoing cancer treatments, and many other such projects. Bring along your ideas!

For those who are interested in joining this ministry but do not know how to knit... fear not! In January, we will offer a 4-week beginners course. We will cover the basics such as casting on & off, knit and purl stitches, reading a beginners pattern, what yarns work best on which projects, and so on.

Prayer/Reflection Time on Good Friday

Following the morning liturgies the church remains open for prayer and reflection.

Use this time to "take a moment", not only to contemplate God's love, but also to step back and receive the fullness of Lent, Holy Week, and our anticipated joy of Easter.  As we ready ourselves for new life and new beginnings, here is time to ponder my own transformation.

Luther Table-talk Pub Night

Learning made fun!  A Student Ministry Event (open to all)

Luther table-talk PUB NIGHT

in the style of Luther's table-talks

Pub opens 6 p.m.

Socialising, Presentations, authentic music of Luther's times

We welcome The Revd Dr. Gordon Jenson from Lutheran Theological Seminary, University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon, Sask.) and Dr. Jarett Carty (Theology Dept., Concordia University, Montreal) who will be "Luther" and amuse you at table with short presentations on Luther's theological thought and the political context of his theological writing and preaching.  In-between there is live music on stage, played on period instruments and authentic to Luther's pubs in Saxony.  And, of course, like with Luther, a chance to interact with our "Luthers."  Questions from the pub!

And of course, draught beer at all times, along with platters of German sausage and bread.

Admission includes a limited-edition Luther beer mug, sausages and bread, music, and presentations.  Pub opens at 6 p.m., but come anytime.  Presentations and music in half-hour intervals.

Tickets from the parish office or Sundays after church.

Adults (advance):  $20; at the door $25

Students $10
